The England international left Signal Iduna Park when completing a £75 million ($95m) transfer to Old Trafford in 2021. Things have not played out as planned for the 23-year-old since then, leading to him being frozen out completely by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag early in the 2023-24 campaign.

Sancho is now back in Germany, having seen a loan move sanctioned in the January window of 2024, and he claims that such a switch was first discussed with Marco Reus during a pre-season friendly in the United States. Sancho has told Dortmund’s : “That Vegas clip, he [Reus] was telling me to come back to Dortmund. That's inside information and he said 'whenever you're ready bro I'm here'. I've always had it in my mind that if it didn't work out somewhere, BVB is a place I know and everyone knows me inside out. It's good to know the club and the players back me.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sancho is delighted to be back in familiar surroundings, having previously thrived at Dortmund, and added on the emotions of retracing his steps to his spiritual home: “Happiness, enjoyment, fun and energy. Those would be the words and ever since I departed Dortmund, I always kept in touch with the players here, always watching the games. BVB will always be part of my life and no matter what I do in my future, the club will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's mainly Marco [Reus] and obviously Jamie [Bynoe-Gittens] who I kept in touch with. Me and Jamie are both from London, so we kept in contact.”
